Marc Schaefer (politician)

Marc Schaefer (born March 24, 1961 in Diekirch ) is a Luxembourg politician. He is a member of the Lëtzebuerger Sozialistesch Arbeschterpartei ( LSAP ). He has been a member of the Luxembourg State Council since January 9, 2007 .

biography

Marc Schaefer, whose grandfather (Bernard Bergh) opened a hairdressing salon in Vianden in 1918 , grew up as the younger of two sons of a master painter in Vianden. Marc Schaefer went to primary school there and obtained the Diplôme de fin d'études (Abitur) at the Lycée classique de Diekirch in 1979 . He began a three-year tourism course at the Ecole des Cadres in Neuilly-sur-Seine near Paris. He worked as a GO in the CLUB MED. From 1987 to 2007 Marc Schaefer took over the family business. Since 2005 he has been teaching tourism at the Lycée technique Alexis Heck in Diekirch . Outside of his political career, he has been active as chairman of the Amiperas Vianden since 2001, vice-president of the Amis de la Maison de Victor Hugo in Vianden, and member of the board of directors of the Luxembourg Alzheimer Association. He is also a long-time member of the Vianden Tourist Association, where Marc Schaefer was a founding member of the Union Commerciale. On March 12, 2012 he was elected chairman of the 210-member tourism association for the years 2012 to 2018.

Political career

In 1995 Marc Schaefer joined the LSAP . From January 2000 to the end of 2003 he was mayor of the city of Vianden and first aldermen from 2004 to October 2005. From October 2005 to October 2011 he was an active member of the municipal council, then again mayor until the end of 2017. Currently, Schaefer is a member of the board of directors North district, President of the LSAP Vianden section, as well as full member of the Committee of the Regions of the EU (Comité des Régions) in Brussels and political coordinator of the CIVEX Commission .
