Marc Tarpenning

Marc Tarpenning (born June 1, 1964 in Sacramento ) was the vice president and co-founder of Tesla Motors , a company that develops and produces electric cars .

As Vice President, he was primarily responsible for the development of the electrical systems, electronics and software for the Tesla Roadster electric car, as well as the company's website and knowledge management.

Education and professional career

After earning a bachelor's degree in computer science from the University of California, Berkeley , he began his professional career at Textron in Saudi Arabia . There he saw the large buildings that could be built thanks to the dependence of the industrialized countries on oil. These experiences shaped his ideas about global warming, environmental issues and the use of global resources.

Marc Tarpenning returned unsatisfied to the United States and worked at various start-ups, where he developed software and firmware for companies such as NEC , Seagate and Bechtel , or organized their development. In 1997 he co-founded NuvoMedia with Martin Eberhard , where he led the development of the Rocket eBook and the server infrastructure required to sell copyrighted electronic books and other content securely over the Internet. After the sale of NuvoMedia, he spent three years as vice president of development at Packet Design , an innovative network technology company founded by Judith Estrin .

Tesla Motors

In 2003 he founded the automobile company Tesla Motors with Martin Eberhard . In the following years he was responsible for Tesla as CFO for several years. After his co-founder Martin Eberhard had to leave the company at the end of 2007, Marc Tarpenning also left the company as CFO in 2008.
