Marc Wauters (born February 23, 1969 in Hasselt ) is a Belgian racing cyclist .

Marc Wauters began his professional career in 1991 with the Belgian cycling team Lotto . After three years he switched to WordPerfect . Here he celebrated his first successes, he won the Ster van Zwolle and the Ronde van Limburg . A year later he won the fifth stage of the Ruta del Sol . In 1996 he went back to the lottery for two years . There he won a stage of the Four Days of Dunkirk in his first year . Wauters has been driving for the Dutch Rabobank team since 1998 . By far his most successful year was 1999. He won the Luxembourg Tour , the PruTour through England, the GP Eddy Merckx , the Rhineland-Palatinate Tour and the classic Paris-Tours . In the 2000 season he was only able to defend his overall victory in the Rhineland-Palatinate Tour. At the 2001 Tour de France , he celebrated the greatest success of his long career. He won the second stage from Saint-Omer to Antwerp , near his home country, and rode in the yellow jersey the following day. In 2002 Wauters won the Belgian time trial championship for the first time, and he repeated this success in 2003 and 2005. At Paris-Roubaix in 2003 he achieved an excellent fourth place.
