Marc van Roosmalen

Marcus Gerardus Maria van Roosmalen (born July 24, 1947 in Tilburg ) is a Dutch primatologist and naturalist with Dutch and Brazilian citizenship. Among other things, he is considered the discoverer of 20 species of monkeys and 17 other species of mammals. According to his own information, he also discovered 5 species of birds and around 50 species of plants.

Act

Van Roosmalen claims to have discovered twenty new species of monkeys between 1997 and 2007. By 2007, he described these, only the following five types scientifically: the Prince Bernhard titi monkeys ( Callicebus bernhardi ), the Stephen Nash titi monkeys ( Callicebus stephennashi ) that Acarí-Marmoset ( Callithrix acariensis or Mico acariensis ), the Manicoré - marmoset ( Callithrix manicorensis or Mico manicorensis ) and the black-crowned marmoset ( Callithrix humilis or, according to Roosmalen, in its own genus Callibella humilis ). Among the 17 other, he discovered mammalian species are among other things the giant peccary ( Pecari maximus ), the Zwergseekuh ( Trichechus pygmaeus ) and the named after him sphiggurus Sphiggurus roosmalenorum .

Marc van Roosmalen spends most of his time on the Rio Aripuanã , a tributary of the Amazon , where he discovered all new animal species.
