Marcel Corbillon

Marcel Corbillon (* around 1890 in Amiens , † April 2, 1958 ) was a French table tennis official .

Corbillon was from 1933 to 1935 and from April 1942 to November 1942 President of the French Table Tennis Association FFTT (French Table Tennis Association). Until 1957 he was Vice President of the world association ITTF .

Corbillon Cup

Corbillon became internationally known when he founded the Corbillon Cup named after him at the 1934 World Table Tennis Championship , which was held in December 1933 . This is a challenge cup for the world champion in the women's team competition.

This trophy was won by the German women at the 1939 World Cup . The trophy was lost in World War II . In 1951 the German Table Tennis Federation (DTTB) paid 120,000 French francs to the world association ITTF so that it could procure a new cup.

Corbillon Cup System

In competitions between teams of two, the Corbillon Cup system is often used . First two single games, then a double and then again two singles are played, whereby the competition is usually over as soon as a team has won three games.
