Marcel Salathé

Marcel Salathé (* 1975 in Basel ) is a Swiss epidemiologist . He is Assistant Professor ( Associate Professor ) at the EPFL in Lausanne and heads the Digital Epidemiology Lab there.

Life

Salathé grew up as the son of a police officer and a saleswoman in Basel. From 1995 to 2002 he studied biology at the University of Basel . After completing his doctorate at ETH Zurich , he spent two years as a postdoc at Stanford University . After further stays at Pennsylvania State University and again at Stanford University, he returned to Switzerland in 2015, where he is assistant professor and head of the Digital Epidemiology Lab at EPFL .

COVID-19 pandemic

In the course of the COVID-19 pandemic , Salathé also gained greater prominence outside of academic institutions. His public lecture "Coronavirus outbreak: What does science say?" at the beginning of the pandemic, his TV appearances (including 10vor10 , Tagesschau ) and the fact that he is a member of the "Taskforce Covid-19", the scientific corona advisory board of the federal government and the cantons.
