Marcelino Medina González (born September 30, 1960 ) is a Cuban politician, diplomat and deputy foreign minister.

Life

He passed a state examination in the field of international relations at the Instituto Superior de Relaciones Internacionales “Raúl Roa García” in Havana and from 1984 worked in the Cuban diplomatic service. From 1984 to 1986 he initially worked in the European Department of the Foreign Ministry. Between 1986 and 1989 he was the third secretary and then until 1991 the second secretary at the Cuban embassy in the Federal Republic of Germany. He then returned to Cuba and worked again as a specialist in the Europe department in 1991 and 1992. In 1993 he obtained a master’s degree from the Colegio de Defensa Nacional .

He then went back to Germany and was a consultant at the Cuban embassy in Bonn from 1994 to 1995 . In 1995 and 1996 he was a consultant and head of the Berlin office . From 1996 to 1998 he worked as deputy and from 1998 to 2000 as director of the European department of the Cuban Foreign Ministry. Marcelino Medina Gonzalez was Cuban Ambassador to Germany from January 11, 2001 . He held the office until July 8, 2005.

After returning to Havana, he was Deputy Director of Human Resources at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs until 2007. From June 1, 2007 to August 18, 2009 he was Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and since August 19, 2009 first Deputy Foreign Minister. In this capacity he was also involved in the resumption of diplomatic relations between Cuba and the USA .

In addition to Spanish , he also speaks German , English and French .

Marcelino Medina González is married and has two children.
