Marco Antonio Cavazzoni
Marco Antonio Cavazzoni , also Marco Antonio da Bologna , Marco Antonio da Urbino (* 1480 in Bologna , † 1559 ) was an Italian composer and organist .
Cavazzoni received an excellent academic and musical education in his youth. His career as a musician took place mainly in Venice. At a young age he may have been in the service of the Cornaro family . Between 1517 and 1524 he worked as a singer at St. Mark's Basilica and organist at Santo Stefano . 1520-21 he stayed in the Vatican to appear before Pope Leo X.
After his return to Venice he published Recerchari, motetti, canzoni [...] libro primo . It is a collection of works for keyboard instruments, including the first known ricercare for organ as well as four songs and two motets that seem like arrangements of vocal works. After a short stay in Padua, where he was acquainted with Pietro Bembo , Cavazzoni worked again in Venice for about ten years from 1528.
In the 1530s he was probably organist at the cathedrals of Treviso and Chioggia, after 1537 he was probably also in the service of Eleonora Gonzaga della Rovere . He later returned to St. Mark's Basilica, where he worked with Marc 'Antonio de Alvise , with whom he is occasionally confused. His son Girolamo Cavazzoni was also known as an organist and composer.
