Marcos Vilaça

Marcos Vinicios Rodrigues Vilaça (born June 30, 1939 in Nazaré da Mata , Pernambuco ) is a Brazilian writer , lawyer , professor and journalist .

Life

Marcos Vilaça was Professor of International Public Law at the Universidade Federal de Pernambuco from 1964 to 1994. He was temporarily President of the Brazilian Federal Audit Office Tribunal de Contas da União (TCU).

Vilaças has now published more than 70 books and numerous essays. His first work, Conceito de Verdade , appeared in 1958, while his most famous work outside of Brazil, Coronel, Coronéis ( The Landlords ), was written together with Roberto Cavalcanti de Albuquerque and has been translated into several languages.

Marcos Vilaça was the only son of Antônio de Souza Vilaça and Evalda Rodrigues Vilaça. He is married to Maria do Carmo Duarte Vilaça, with whom he has three children.

Academia Brasileira de Letras

Marcos Vilaça was President of the Academia Brasileira de Letras from 2006 to 2007 and from 2010 to 2011 . He was elected to Chair No. 26 on April 11, 1985, to succeed Mauro Mota .

He was also President from 1970 to 1972 of the Academia Pernambucana de Letras , of which he has been a member since 1965 and holds chair No. 35 there.

Awards

Vilaça has received numerous awards, medals and prizes. In 2011 he was awarded the Ordem do Mérito Cultural (OMC).
