Marcellus' agnomen Aeserninus was derived from the Samnite city of Aesernia . Marcellus was the son-in-law of Gaius Asinius Pollios , the consul in 40 BC. He began his political career in 48 BC. As quaestor of Quintus Cassius Longinus in the province of Hispania ulterior . Therefore Marcellus was first banished by Caesar , but later accepted again in honor.
