Sheki Khanate

The Sheki Khanate (also Shakki, Schekhi, Şəki) was a state in the northwest of what is now Azerbaijan , which existed from around 1500 to 1819. The capital was the eponymous town of Sheki, today Şəki . It was located in the northwest of Azerbaijan, north of the Kura River .

history

Sheki was founded around 1500 when the area became independent from the Shirvanshah . It later became an independent khanate. From 1736 it was part of Persia under Nadir Shah , after his death in 1747 the area became independent. It was soon conquered by the Quba Khanate under Husayn `Ali. From 1761 to 1765 it was part of Dagestan . 1806 it became part of the Russian Empire , the annexation of the Khanate was in 1813 in the Treaty of Gulistan confirmed. In 1819 the khanate was dissolved and the area became part of the Shemacha governorate .

After the dissolution of the khanate, the capital was renamed Nuxa.
