Marcus Graf (2010)

Marcus Graf (* 1974 in Hamm ) is a German cultural scientist and art scholar . He has lived and worked in Istanbul since 2001 as a curator , author and associate professor for contemporary art theory .

Life

Graf studied cultural studies at Heidelberg University and graduated with a diploma. He did his doctorate in art studies at the Art Academy in Stuttgart . Since 2003 he has been teaching art history, curatorial practice and exhibition management in the Faculty of Fine Arts at Yeditepe University in Istanbul. Graf has been the chief curator of the Plato Sanat exhibition hall since 2010. In 2010 , he also curated exhibitions for the EU project Caleidoscope Europe in Evora, Portugal (Not a Lens but a Prism) and the CDA Projects gallery in Istanbul (Hans & Helga). In 2009 Graf was selected to curate the exhibition series “Temporary Harassment” for Istanbul 2010 - European Capital of Culture. In 2007 he was appointed co-curator of nightcomers , the video program of the 10th Istanbul Biennale . Graf was also the artistic director of Aviva Art Program (2006/2007), Under Construction (2005–2007) and Siemens Sanat (2003–2007) in Istanbul. Between 2001 and 2009, Marcus Graf was the head of the visitor guidance department at the Istanbul Biennale.
