Genco Gulan

Genco Gulan (also Genco Gülan , * 1969 in Turkey ) is a contemporary Turkish conceptual artist and theorist.

Life

He lives and works in Istanbul , New York and Frankfurt am Main . His conceptual work examines the relationship between society and culture through painting and sculpture as well as new media , performance art and installation .

He studied Political Science and Art at Boğaziçi Üniversitesi , Istanbul, and is a Masters graduate from New School , New York. Gulan attracted attention mainly through the political aspects of his work.

Gülan's work has been shown in the Pera Museum in Istanbul, in the MAM in Rio de Janeiro , in the Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe , at the Triennale di Milano, the Biennale of Tehran, in the Center Pompidou , Paris and at Duisburger Akzent . Solo exhibitions of his works have taken place in the Artist Gallery Berlin , the Painting and Sculpture Museum, Ankara and the Artda Gallery, Seoul . He is the recipient of the artist prizes BP, Lions and has been nominated and in 2011 named a finalist of the Sovereign Foundation European Art Prize. His works have been included in the science curriculum at Hunter College , Rice University , Hacettepe University, and UCSB . He has given seminars at Yale University , the School of Visual Arts , the New York Institute of Technology and the University of Cologne .

The performance developed by Yeşim Özsoy and Genco Gülan is a contemporary interpretation that refers to the Ottoman Festival.
