Marcus Hasselhorn

Marcus Hasselhorn (* 1957 ) is a German educational researcher and professor of psychology with a focus on education and development at DIPF | Leibniz Institute for Research and Information in Education in Frankfurt am Main.

Life

Marcus Hasselhorn studied psychology in Göttingen and Heidelberg and graduated in 1983 with a diploma. From 1983 to 1985 he was a doctoral fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Psychological Research in Munich. In 1986 he received his doctorate from Heidelberg University. phil. with a thesis on "Differential Condition Analysis of Verbal Memory Performance in School Children". From 1985 to 1993 he was a research assistant and academic advisor at the Institute for Psychology at the University of Göttingen. His habilitation took place in 1993 at the University of Göttingen. From 1993 to 1997 Hasselhorn was Professor of Developmental Psychology at the TU Dresden . In 1997 he switched to the professorship for educational psychology and developmental psychology at the University of Göttingen . From 2000 to 2002 he was Dean of the Faculty of Biology there. From 2006 to 2008 he was President of the German Society for Psychology , from 2005 to 2010 he was the spokesman for the Graduate College 1195 on the relationship between school learning and the University of Göttingen. Hasselhorn has been Professor of Psychology with a focus on education and development at DIPF | since 2007 Leibniz Institute for Research and Information in Education . There he heads the “Education and Development” department and was its managing director from 2012 to 2019. From 2008 to 2019 he was also Scientific Coordinator and Spokesperson for the IDeA research center (Center for Research on Individual Development and Adaptive Education of Children at Risk). In 2005 he was accepted as a full member of the Academy of Sciences in Göttingen .

Hasselhorn has four sons, including the theologian and historian Benjamin Hasselhorn and the singer Samuel Hasselhorn .

Focus

Scientific areas of work are the ontogenesis of individual requirements for successful learning and pedagogical-psychological diagnostics. He leads projects on learning and performance disorders and is interested in the changeability and influenceability of cognitive and motivational learning requirements as well as early education.
