Marcus Matthias Keupp (born September 29, 1977 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a Swiss artist .

Life

Keupp studied business administration at the University of Mannheim and then emigrated to Switzerland. He received his doctorate in 2008 from the University of St. Gallen with an empirical thesis in business administration . At the same time, from around 2005, Keupp began to self-taught about industrial production techniques. After studying for several years, he found a way to use these techniques for his art; since then he has been speaking specifically of art "production". After he primarily created images made with industrial techniques in 2008–2011, his design focus shifted from 2011 to concepts that he publishes together with literary and photographic works in the form of artist books.

Keupp's main topic is the occupation with the modular construction, which he understands as the basic law of all life and all existence. His works, influenced by Buddhist ideas, are complex, dynamic, restless constructions made up of a few or just a single basic geometric shape, which he describes as a "module". In his work, Keupp deals with concrete and constructive art in an ironic and distant manner , although he adopts a rather negative attitude towards the theoretical foundations of these directions. In his books he uses satirical comments to comment on the inherent contradictions in the world of art and work by adding new meaning to familiar symbols and pictograms. Keupp lives and works in Zug (city) and Basel . His work was largely supported by Jürgen Blum , who invited him to the 2010-2011 group exhibition at the Museum Modern Art in Hünfeld . Keupp also created large-format commissioned works for the Hoffmann-La Roche company in Basel.
