Marj Uyun ( Arabic مرج عيون Marj'Uyūn , locally Marz'Ayun even Marj 'Ayoun , Marjuyun , Marjeyoun or Marja'uyun ) is a town in Lebanon and the seat of the district of the same in southern Lebanon . The name means meadow of water springs .
The city has a predominantly Christian, Greek Orthodox population; the majority of the population in the surrounding hill country is Muslim . Marjajoun has about 3000 inhabitants. The South Lebanese Army , a militia allied with Israel during the 1982 war in Lebanon , had its headquarters here until the Israeli withdrawal in 2000 . During the 2006 Lebanon War , the place was briefly occupied by Israeli troops.
