Maredudd ap Gruffydd
Maredudd ap Gruffydd (* 1130/1131; † 1155 ) was a prince of Deheubarth from the Dinefwr dynasty .
He was the eldest son of Gruffydd ap Rhys and his wife Gwenllian , a daughter of Gruffydd ap Cynan of Gwynedd . He was six years old when his father died in 1137. At the age of 16 he supported his older half-brother Cadell in the fight against the Anglo-Normans in southern Ceredigion and in the defense of the recently conquered castle of Carmarthen . In the same year they captured Llansteffan Castle . In 1151 he drove a Welsh force from neighboring Gwynedd back behind the Dovey , and in the same year he took control of Deheubarth after Cadell was badly wounded. Despite his youth, he was considered a respected ruler and an admired warrior, but he died four years later. He was succeeded by his younger brother Rhys ap Gruffydd .
