Maren Butterbrodt (born July 16, 1977 ) is a German wheelchair basketball player . She achieved 4th place at the 2004 Paralympic Summer Games and was part of the German national team, with which she was European champion several times.

Life

Maren Butterbrodt comes from Osnabrück . After high school she studied economics and graduated as a business graduate from. As a student she became a member of Osnabrücker SC and played in the local basketball department. Due to an accident she suffered a cruciate ligament rupture and a stiffening of the knee (cartilage damage), so that she was dependent on a wheelchair from now on.

She therefore switched to women's wheelchair basketball . Since she performed well, she was called up to a course for the German national team in January 2003 and then took part in international games in her sport. She was a member of the German women's wheelchair basketball team at the 2004 Paralympic Summer Games in Athens, in which she and the German team achieved 4th place.

In 2005 her team became German champions in wheelchair basketball. She also became European champion in her sport with the national team. This was followed by a bronze medal at the World Championships in 2006 and another 1st place at the European Championships in 2007.

Since 2007 she has lived in Hanover with her husband, a teacher who is also her trainer . Here she played in the team of BG Langenhagen, but remained a regular player in the national team, with which she took part in the 2008 Paralympics in Beijing and won a silver medal. In the final against the USA, the German team lost 50:28.

On January 1st, 2009 she moved to SG Oldenburg / Süntetal .
