Life
Her father, Emmanuel Sutermeister, was a firefighter in Milton, Massachusetts. After graduating from school in 1894, Sutermeister discovered photography as a means of artistic expression and began to document her surroundings with a plate camera . In addition to everyday scenes, he created landscapes, but also formal portraits. After her father's death in 1909, she took over the management of the family's Davenport nursery and gave up photography.
The photographic estate of around 1,800 glass negatives is in the collection of the Milton Historical Society . At the beginning of the 1990s the estate was rediscovered by the art historian Judith Bookbinder and presented in several exhibitions in Massachusetts.
