Margarete Spate

Margarete Späte (born February 26, 1958 in Leipzig ) is a German politician and sculptor .

After graduating from high school in 1976 and training as a stonemason, she studied sculpture at the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design in Halle . During her studies, she took over the sculpture and stonemason business of her father Alfred Späte (1917–1979) in her home town of Kayna , of which she is still co-owner today.

From 1990 until the town was incorporated into Zeitz in 2009, she was the mayor of Kayna, and since then she has been the mayor of the town. In 1991 she joined the CDU . She has been a member of the Burgenland District Council since 1994 and was a member of the Bundestag from 1994 to 2002.
