Margi Clarke

Margi Clarke (* 1954 in Liverpool ) is an English presenter and actress .

Life

In 1978 she was the presenter of the late-night show What's On at ITV Granada. At that time she called herself just Margox. She became famous in 1985 by Chris Bernard's film Letter to Brezhnev (Letter to Brezhnev) meet two Liverpool girls Russian sailors. She played the role of Theresa in 1983 in a performance at the Liverpool Playhouse. In 1986 she won the Evening Standard British Film Award for " Most Promising Newcomer ". She played other roles in The Dressmaker  (1988) and Love Roulette (Strike It Rich, 1990). 1987 was featured in the video for Rent by the Pet Shop Boys . In 1991 she sang a cover version of the title Non, je ne regrette rien by Édith Piaf with the indie rock band Half Man Half Biscuit on the single No Regrets . In the same year she played a boxer in his film Blonde Fist, directed by her brother Frank Clarke (* 1956) .

After the death of her mother and the birth of her daughter Rowan, she withdrew. It was not until 1999 that she appeared again in BBC family series. In 2002, she also took on roles in the feature films The Revenger's Tragedy of Alex Cox and 24 Hour Party People by Michael Winterbottom . She is often referred to as "The Queen Of Liverpool" by the media. The music producer Malcolm McLaren actually gave her this label . In November 2010 she published her autobiography Margi Clarke - Now You See Me .
