Margot Gehring

Margot Gehring (born May 12, 1943 in Bielefeld as Margot Osthushenrich ; † July 15, 2006 in Bad Tölz ), was a German entrepreneur , founder and holder of the Federal Cross of Merit.

Life and work

Margot Gehring was born as the first of two children to the married couple Karl and Karin Osthushenrich, owners of the Osthushenrich & Sons Kistenfabrik, later O&S upholstered furniture factory in Gütersloh.

After graduating from high school in Gütersloh in 1963, Margot Gehring studied business administration and economics at the University of Cologne , where she graduated in 1967 with a degree in business administration. Immediately after completing her studies, she joined O&S, which, after her father's death, had been run by her mother since 1957. From 1970 she took over managing director duties. She worked for a few years with her brother, who left the company in the early 1980s. Margot Gehring ran the company successfully and decided in 1991 - as she was childless - to sell the company to the upholstered furniture factory JAB Anstoetz in Bielefeld.

Margot Gehring's first marriage was to Jochen Berg from Bielefeld and her second marriage to Werner Gehring from Gütersloh.

During her lifetime she decreed that all of her assets should be put into a foundation, the Osthushenrich Family Foundation . The foundation came into being after her death.

Volunteering

Margot Gehring also did voluntary work during her active entrepreneurial time. She was an active member of the organization The Young Entrepreneurs . In addition, she worked as an honorary commercial judge in Bielefeld for almost 20 years . For this she was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon on February 10, 1981 .
