The Dormition Church ( Serbo-Croatian  Црква Успења Пресвете Богородице / Crkva Uspenja Presvete Bogorodice ) is a Serbian Orthodox Church in central Pale , Bosnia and Herzegovina . The church was built between 1890 and 1909.

The church belongs to the metropolis of Dabrobosnia in the administrative district of the metropolitan of Sarajevo. It is the seat of the first parish in Pale.

history

Parish of Pale

The parish of Pale was founded in 1890. It extends from the Kozja ćuprija ( German  : "Goat Bridge " ) to the Romanija . It includes the villages of Bulozi , Ljubogošta , Trebević , Rakovac , Ćemanovići and Bogovići near Pale.

Edification

The first priest of the parish of Pale, Đorđe Grabež, laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Church of the Assumption. The architect was Miloš Miladinović from Donji Vakuf . He was also the main painter of the frescoes inside the church. The church was consecrated on August 30, 1909 by Metropolitan Evgenije Letica . The church is built in the typical Serbian-Byzantine style .

The church during the world wars

During the First World War , the church was used by the Austrians as a horse stable , and the church was badly damaged. The church was not damaged in World War II , but the church archives were destroyed.

Priest of the church

The first priest of the church was Đorđe Grabež from 1890 to 1917. From 1917 to 1918 it was the priest Milan Lalić. From 1918 until the Second World War it was Simo Begović. Simo Begović died in the war , so that from 1945 to 1947 Milan Lalić was again a priest. Vladimir Šoljević was a priest from 1947 to 1952. Dragoljub Savić was the priest of the Church from 1952 to 1987. In the same year that Dragoljub Savić retired, the second parish of Pale was established. Slobodan Lubarda became the priest of the first parish. Miomir Zekić became a priest in the second parish. In the summer of 1996 the third parish of Pale was founded, the priest of which was Jeremiah Starovlah . This priest and his son Alexandar were seriously wounded in an attack on their home in 2004.
