The wayside shrine on the edge of the village

The Maria Krönungsbildstock is a torture on the district of Schwarzenau . It stands at the intersection of the old country road to Dettelbach and the way to Neuses am Berg .

history

The wayside shrine was built at the beginning of the 18th century. An inscription on the column mentions the year 1713. The wayside shrine inspired a couple in 1737 to donate an almost identical torture, which was set up near the Dettelbacher Steigmühle. However, it is unclear whether the counterpart in Dettelbach was created by the same workshop or the same stonemason .

The Schwarzenau wayside shrine was initially halfway between Schwarzenau and Neuses am Berg at a wayside cross. The pilgrims on the way to the church Maria im Sand stopped there. In 1920 Georg Sauer had the cane restored. Before the new renovation by Richard Sauer in 1956, the wayside shrine was moved. The torture came to its present location in 1976 after a tractor knocked over the stick. The Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation classifies the wayside shrine under the number D-6-75-165-44 as an architectural monument .

description

The wayside shrine has a circular top. A wreath of flowers frames the depiction of the coronation of Mary by the Most Holy Trinity . Below a dove, which symbolizes the Holy Spirit, Jesus (left) and God the Father (right) hold a crown over the kneeling Mary. The outer boundary is formed by four angels whose wings are entwined with one another. Below is a relief of the local patron Laurentius with the grate.
