Maria Aparecida Schumaher , known as Schuma Schumaher , (* in the 20th century in Brazil) is a Brazilian educationalist , author and feminist .

Life

Little is known about origin and early life dates. Schuma Schumaher has been an active feminist since the 1970s. From 1976 to 1978 she studied and graduated in educational science at the Faculdade de Ciências e Letras “Prof. José Augusto Vieira “ (FCL) in Machado , today the Centro Superior de Ensino e Pesquisa de Machado (CESEP) in the state of Minas Gerais . She was co-founder of the non-governmental organization REDEH Rede de Desenvolvimento Humano (German: Network for Human Development), which is particularly committed to women's rights, and is currently (2018) still active in the management.

From 1985 to 1988 she worked for public relations in the Brazilian Ministry of Justice, from 1988 to 1990 as a consultant in the Ministry of Culture, from 1991 to 1994 at the Conselho Estadual da Condição Feminina de São Paulo in the state of São Paulo and from 1996 to 2000 general coordinator at the Conselho Estadual dos Direitos da Mulher . She organized campaigns such as the Articulação de Mulheres Brasileiras (AMB).

She wrote articles and a. for the Revista Estudos Feministas on topics such as abortion in Brazil, domestic violence or women in politics. As an author and editor, she became known in particular for the biographical lexica Dicionário mulheres do Brasil, which was written with support from across Brazil, with résumés for 900 Brazilian women and Mulheres negras do Brasil for Afro-Brazilian women . The latter work has won several awards, including the Prêmio Jabuti in the Human Sciences category in 2008 .

In 2004 she was awarded the Diploma Bertha Lutz and in 2005 was one of the 52 Brazilian women who had been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize from this country.
