Maria Königin is a Roman Catholic parish church in the Baumheide district of Bielefeld . Structurally, the church and parish belong to the Bielefeld-Mitte-Nord-Ost pastoral network of the Bielefeld-Lippe dean's office in the Archdiocese of Paderborn .

history

In the 1950s, displaced persons from the east were settled in the northeast of Bielefeld and the Baumheide district emerged. In the 1970s, the Catholic services took place in the Evangelical Lutheran Peace Church.

The church council of St. John Baptist recognized the need for a new building. In October 1976 construction began on the Church of the Incarnation . Klemens Jonas , Vilsendorf, created the design . The foundation stone was laid on Palm Sunday 1977. The construction work dragged on because there was a lack of money and the plans were not accepted by everyone involved. The altar, ambo and tabernacle were initially taken over from the former sister chapel of the St. Elisabeth children's home.

architecture

Maria Königin is a towerless brick building with copper roofing, which also covers the upper area of ​​the side walls. The architectural idea is a three-step structure from the vestibules via the community hall to the sanctuary. This receives its light from a polygonal glass wall on the upper floor, to which an outer cross in the form of a lecture cross is presented.

Furnishing

The Leben-Jesu-Fenster was designed by Maina Leonhardt from Stuttgart. The whole life of Jesus is shown in six glass panels.

For the inauguration of the parish in 1982, Archbishop Degenhardt gave the community a relief of the Mother of God by an unknown French master. Today it serves as a wall decoration and sacrificial place for candles.

In 2002 the church received a carved stations of the cross with 15 stations. In addition to the usual 14 stations, the last representation is the resurrection of Christ .
