St. Johannes Baptist in Bielefeld-Schildesche

St. Johannes Baptist is a Roman Catholic parish church in the Bielefeld district of Schildesche . The church and parish belong to the Schildesche-Jöllenbeck pastoral network of the Bielefeld-Lippe dean's office in the Archdiocese of Paderborn .

history

The original church was built in 1911–1912. In 1966 the choir and sacristy were torn down and an extension was added according to plans by Paul Johannbroer. This had become necessary because the previous worship room was no longer sufficient. At the same time, the requirements of the Second Vatican Council should be implemented.

architecture

The older part of the church consists of a three-aisled nave with groin vaults . The church tower is at the gable.

The extension is rectangular and takes up the course of the old church wall in the east, while it is wider in the west. The wall surfaces of the extension are not structured and made of natural stone. The gables are kept flat; the ridges are not centered over the walls. Inside the new building is clad with a wooden ceiling. The sanctuary is raised by four steps.

Furnishing

In the new building the stalls form a quarter circle around the altar. The east wall is completely glazed; the concrete glass elements come from Johannes Beeck .
