history

The construction of the chapel was started by a war returnees, whose father was a master bricklayer, as thanks for his return from captivity in 1947. An old linden tree with a wooden crucifix was chosen as the location. Other villagers took up the idea and that made the project bigger.

On March 1, 1948, the Königsfeld pastor Durmann asked the Archbishop's Ordinariate in Bamberg for permission to build the chapel:

“The returnees in Laibarös want to build a church as thanks for their return home. The community agrees and wants to carry out the project.
Laibarös has 170 inhabitants and currently 20 refugees. It belongs to the Hohenpölz branch community, where the children go to school. The path goes up a high mountain for ½ hour. In winter and when the weather was bad, people came very little to the afternoon prayer, mostly only to St. Fair. A devotion was held in the open air place near a cross. May devotion u. Rosary.
Because everyone had to stand, old people could not take part, let alone make the way to Hohenpölz.
In order to remedy these conditions, the community wants to build a church. "

The Archbishop's Ordinariate replied that the permit could only be given once the client's question had been clarified. The Königsfeld Catholic Church Foundation should act as the client, but not the “ Laibarös political community ”.

On May 12, 1948, the plan was submitted to the Ebermannstadt District Office and approved on July 17, 1948. The foundation stone was laid on August 12, 1948, the topping-out ceremony on September 26 of the same year.

The structure was erected from unplastered quarry stone masonry. Bricks were used very sparingly, namely for the choir arch and for the window reveals. The roof was covered with slate and a six meter high ridge turret with a lantern for the bells was put on. The nave of the chapel is eleven and a half by seven meters. The ridge is ten meters high. The sanctuary was separated from the parish room by a four meter wide and 3.75 meter high round arch. The nave is 5.20 meters high.

On July 6, 1949, the Archbishop's General Vicariate in Bamberg gave Pastor Durmann the power to officially inaugurate the chapel, with the note that Holy Mass may be celebrated in the chapel on weekdays.

Bell jar

To finance the bells, part of the holy wood in Hohenpölz was felled in May 1949 . Since the trees were in sap, the bark could also be sold for the production of tannins. The proceeds were made available to Laibarös. From this the so-called bark bell was purchased. A Madonna is depicted on the bell . The Latin inscription reads:

" REGINA PACIS ORA PRO NOBIS "
(" Queen of Peace, pray for us! ")

The bell was consecrated in the Hohenpölzer Church in 1950 before it found its place in the belfry .
