Maria Leibetseder

Maria Leibetseder (born August 31, 1901 in Traun , Upper Austria ; † September 29, 1978 there ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ).

Life

Maria Leibetseder only had a simple school education. After six classes in elementary school , she found employment as a worker in a textile factory. Only in later years did she catch up with the citizenship degree.

From 1919 she was involved in the SdP, the forerunner of today's SPÖ. In 1924 she became the textile workers' union secretary; however, she lost her job during the Great Depression in 1929. After that, she was unemployed for 10 years until 1939. From 1939 Leibetseder found work as an accountant before she took on responsibility as treasurer in the Traun municipal office in 1945.

In November 1955 she was sworn in in Vienna as a member of the Federal Council, to which she was to belong for 12 years until November 1967.
