Maria Occhipinti

Maria Occhipinti (born July 29, 1921 in Ragusa , Italy , † August 20, 1996 ) was an Italian anarchist, communist, writer and suffragette.

Life

Occhipiniti was considered the "great old lady" of Italian anarchist feminism . She became known through her autobiographical book "A Woman from Ragusa". It was published in 1957, but the book went completely unnoticed until 1976. It was not until the second edition in 1976 that Occhipinti became so well known that a women's jury awarded it the Brancati Zafferana Prize .
