Maria Pagan

María L. Pagán (* in Puerto Rico ) is an American lawyer.

Career

María L. Pagán holds a law degree and a master's degree in foreign service from Georgetown University , and a bachelor of arts degree from Tufts University .

Over time, she specialized in providing legal advice on services, public procurement, Article 421 (country-specific protective measures), etc. In the course of her professional life, she litigated several disputes before the World Trade Organization (WTO).

From 1993 to 2003, she served as an Attorney Advisor in the Office of the Chief Counsel for International Trade in the United States Department of Commerce (DOC).

Pagán joined the United States Trade Representative (USTR) office in 2003 as Deputy General Counsel . She is responsible for overseeing and providing legal advice to senior USTR officials on all legal aspects of trade negotiations, the execution of trade agreements, and trade-related laws and regulations.

She has served as the lead United States Attorney in numerous trade deal negotiations , including the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), the Free Trade Agreements with Colombia (CTPA) and Peru (PTPA), and the Revised Government Procurement Agreement (GPA).

From January 20 to March 1, 2017, she served as the United States' Acting Trade Representative.

Pagán has a son.
