A local noble family has been mentioned in documents since 1130 and is known from the 12th to 14th centuries. In 1453 the barons of Closen bought the Hofmark from the Chamerauers. The moated castle in Mariakirchen has its origin in 1550, as evidenced by a coat of arms in its courtyard. In 1756 the baroque Church of the Assumption of Mary was consecrated, which is also known as the "Cathedral of the Kollbach Valley". The estate passed to the Counts of Deym in 1848 .

By Gemeindeedikt in Bavaria in 1818 was the independent community Mariakirchen. On January 1, 1972, part of the former municipality of Sattlern was incorporated. On May 1, 1978 the territorial reform was completed. At this time, Mariakirchen was incorporated into Arnstorf with saddlers.
