Marianna Madia (actually Maria Anna Madìa ; born September 5, 1980 in Rome ) is an Italian politician of the Partito Democratico . From February 21, 2014 to June 1, 2018, she was Minister for Administrative Reforms and Simplification.

Life

Her father was the actor and journalist Stefano Madia (1954-2004). Madia graduated from the French school abroad Lycée Chateaubriand in Rome and then studied political science at La Sapienza University in Rome. She then did her doctorate in the field of labor economics at the elite university Istituto di Studi Avanzati di Lucca . She worked for the research institution Agenzia di ricerche e legislazione (AREL) and was appointed to its steering committee in 2012.

In the Prodi II cabinet , she worked from 2006 to 2008 in the office of Prime Minister for the then State Secretary Enrico Letta . In 2008 she moved into the Chamber of Deputies for the first time, again in 2013 and 2018. She represents the constituency of the Roman district of Monte Sacro . At the end of 2013 she was elected to the national party executive of the Partito Democratico, responsible for labor and social affairs. From 2014 to 2018 she was Minister without Portfolio at the Prime Minister's Office, where she was responsible for administrative reforms. From July to November 2018 she was party spokeswoman for the Partito Democratico.

Since 2013 Madia has been married to the television and film producer Mario Gianani, with whom she has two children.
