Marich Agoston
Marich Ágoston , also AH de Marich, (born November 19, 1883 in Budapest , † November 1955 in Reit im Winkl ) was a Hungarian police officer, language teacher and pacifist . Ágoston is an important promoter of the world auxiliary language Esperanto .
Life
Ágoston was an early supporter of the Esperanto movement. As a police officer in Austria-Hungary at the beginning of the 20th century, he tried to introduce this world auxiliary language into police work. In 1908 he founded the Esperanto magazine Polica Revuo . In later years Ágoston lived in the Netherlands.
The National Socialists classified Ágoston as an enemy of the state: in 1940 the Reich Main Security Office in Berlin, which suspected him to be in Great Britain, placed him on the special wanted list GB , a directory of people who would be detained by SS special commandos in the event of an occupation of the British Isles by the Wehrmacht. Those who were to follow the occupation forces should be located and arrested with special priority.
After the Second World War, Ágoston lived in southern Germany.
