Marie-Christine Vergiat (born September 23, 1956 in Roanne , Loire department ) is a French politician of the Parti communiste français .

Life

Vergiat studied law in France. Since 1983 Vergiat has been active in the French league for the defense of human and civil rights . From 1980 to 2005 Vergiat was a member of the Parti socialiste . In 2005 she joined the Parti communiste français . Vergiat has been a member of the European Parliament for the Front de gauche since 2009 , where she is a member of the United European Left / Nordic Green Left .

EU parliamentarian

Between 2009 and 2014, Vergiat is a member of the Committee on Culture and Education and the Human Rights subcommittee. She is also a member of the delegation for relations with the Maghreb countries and the Arab Maghreb Union. She is a deputy in the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs , in the delegation in the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly and in the delegation in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean.
