Marie-Elisabeth de Valois (born October 27, 1572 in Paris , † April 2, 1578 in Amboise ) was the only child of the French King Charles IX. and Elisabeth of Austria .

Princess Marie-Elisabeth of France

Marie-Elisabeth lost her father when she was less than two years old, and in 1575 her mother also left the French court. Education was now in the hands of her governess , Madame Crissé.

She is said to have been pretty and similar to her parents, especially her mother. Brantôme writes of her unusual intelligence and her eagerness to learn, which made the little princess act like an adult from an early age. She is said to have inquired who had been kind to her father during his lifetime in order to reward these people for it later.

She passed away at the age of five.
