Marie-Louise Cecille Potter (born March 15, 1959 in the British Seychelles ) is a Seychellois politician and diplomat.

Life

Marie-Louise Potter was born on March 15, 1959 in what was then the British Crown Colony of the Seychelles. After completing school, Potter studied political and social sciences in the Seychelles and Cuba.

Political career

In 1992 and 1993, Potter was a delegate from the People's Party of the Seychelles ( Parti Lepep ) - also known as the Progressive Popular Front of the Seychelles (SPPF) - to the Constitutional Commission that drafted the constitution for the Third Republic of the Seychelles. In 1993 she was appointed Minister for Local Policy, Youth and Sport. Potter also held a mandate as a member of the National Assembly for the constituency of Beau Vallon and exercised this between 1993 and 2002. As part of its mandate, she represented the National Assembly of Seychelles and the Parliament of the Commonwealth Federation ( Commonwealth Parliamentary Association ) and the International Parliament Union .

In party politics, Potter rose to the Central Committee of the Parti Lepep in 2005 and was re-elected in January 2012.

On March 30, 2012, President James Michel of Seychelles appointed Potter Ambassador of the Island State to the United States and the United Nations. She accredited herself to US President Barack Obama on September 19, 2012.

Private

Potter is married with three children. She speaks French, Seychellois Creole and English.
