Marie Altona
Marie Altona (born December 16, 1868 in Oldenburg , † December 18, 1916 in Coburg ) was a German opera singer ( soprano ) and singing teacher .
Life
Altona did her studies with Ludwig Wüllner and Benno Stolzenberg in Cologne and then went to Vienna for further training. She found her first engagement in Sondershausen, from where she came to the court theater in Coburg in 1891. There she mainly occupied herself with Wagner roles, in which she achieved outstanding success. In 1897 she became a member of the theater in Chemnitz, where she stayed in her first position for two years, then she joined the association of the Königsberg city theater. Altona, who was also successful as a concert singer, was invited to Bayreuth in 1897 to play a "Valkyrie" and a lotus flower girl. She later lived as a teacher in Coburg, one of her students was Louise Schmidt-Gronau . She died two days after her 48th birthday.
