Marie C. van der Kolf

Marie Christina van der Kolf (born October 28, 1894 in Rotterdam ; † February 20, 1956 there ) was a Dutch classical philologist and high school teacher.

life and work

Marie Christina van der Kolf, the daughter of Adrianus Pieter van der Kolf and Jacoba Christina geb. van Dorsten, attended the Erasmianum grammar school in her hometown and studied classical philology (Greek and Latin) at the University of Leiden from 1912 to 1923 . One of her academic teachers was Julius Johannes Gerardus Vürtheim (1869–1928), who also supervised her doctoral thesis. On December 14, 1923, she was awarded a doctorate by studying Pindar's handling of myths . phil. PhD .

After completing his studies, van der Kolf taught Greek and Latin at the Erasmianum grammar school for a few years. She then worked as a private teacher in Rotterdam. She was also involved in the Dutch Association for Women with Higher Education ( Vereniging van vrouwen met academische opleiding , VVAO), where she was a board member and archivist from 1927 to 1949. The VVAO made her an honorary member in 1946. In 1950 van der Kolf published a review of seventy years of women's studies.

Marie C. van der Kolf remained scientifically active throughout her life. As a specialist in Greek mythology, she wrote numerous articles for the revision of Pauly's Real Encyclopedia of Classical Antiquity (RE)
