Marielle Elisabeth Mathisen Martinsen (born February 14, 1995 ) is a Norwegian handball player who belongs to the squad of the Norwegian national beach handball team.

Career

Marielle Martinsen started playing handball at Haugsbygd IF. From 2010 the back court player played for Hønefoss SK. In the 2012/13 season she made her debut for Hønefoss in the 1st divisjon, the second highest Norwegian division. In 2014 she joined Njård IF. In 2016, the elite teams of Njård IF and Ullern IF merged to form Aker Topphåndball , for which she played from then on. With Aker, she rose to the top Norwegian league in 2019. In the summer of 2020 she moved to the Danish club Aarhus United .

Martinsen played her only three internationals for the Norwegian junior national team in April 2014 in a qualifying tournament for the U-20 World Cup 2014 . She contributed five hits to the three victories against the Czech, Turkish and Israelite national teams. Martinsen has been playing for the Norwegian national beach handball team since 2017. At the Beach Handball European Championships in 2017, she won the gold medal with the Norwegian selection. In the same year she took part in the World Games . A year later she was in the final of the Beach Handball World Championship , which Norway lost in a shootout against Greece. Martinsen was named MVP at the Beachhandball Euro 2019 , which Norway finished in sixth place .
