Marian Quadrille

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Marien-Quadrille is a quadrille by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 51). It was first performed in Bucharest at the turn of the year 1847/48 .

Remarks

Like the Annika Quadrille, Op. 53, the work was written on the composer's trip to the Balkans in 1847/48. Romanian melodies are processed in the quadrille. The exact date of the premiere is not certain. But it must be between December 31, 1847 and January 4, 1848. The work was dedicated to Princess Marie Bibesko (1815–1859), the wife of Gheorghe Bibescu . The piano edition was published in Vienna at the beginning of June 1848. Apparently, the quadrille was not played much. The orchestral version was lost. The CD recording mentioned below was made with the help of an arrangement by Vladimir Haklik based on the piano reduction.

The playing time on the CD listed under itemization is 5 minutes and 50 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
