Lady Chapel

The Marienkapelle is a chapel in Siegburg . It stands at the foot of the Michaelsberg in Mühlenstrasse, leaning against the old city wall.

The chapel was built in 1755 on the initiative of Johann Christoph von Hagen, the abbot of Michaelsberg Abbey . The small chapel has a barred arch as an entrance at the front, and a small arched window on the exposed side wall. In this is a modern statue of the Archangel Michael . In the chapel stands a statue of sandstone that of the chapel Queen of Peace comes to the ring road.

The chapel has already been restored several times. It was badly damaged in a bombing raid on December 28, 1944, and was not fully restored until May 1, 1949. In 1965, seepage water damage required drainage, so the chapel was rededicated on September 16. In 1973 and 1984 the statue of the Madonna had to be restored because it had been exposed to road traffic without protection until then.
