The Marian column

The Marian column in Prudnik (Polish Kolumna Maryjna ) on the ring is a statue from the 17th century. It stands west of the town hall .

Description and history

The late baroque from sandstone existing sculpture with rich sculptural decoration was in 1694 by the Austrian sculptor Johann Melchior Austrians created. The figures show the archangels Michael , Raphael , and Gabriel as well as guardian angels with a child. The column was donated by Peter Ortman. It was created as a thank you after surviving two plague epidemics in Prudnik in 1625. On the four walls of the base there are round medallions with reliefs of Joseph of Nazareth , the legendary Mother of Mary Anna , Mary, the mother of Jesus and Johannes Nepomuk .
