The town hall in Prudnik (Polish: Ratusz ) in Upper Silesia stands in the middle of the ring ( Rynek ). Next to the town hall is the Marian column , the statue of Nepomuk and a fountain from 1696.

history

The first town hall in Prudnik, probably made of wood , was burned down by the Swedes in 1627 . The next building had a baroque character and was destroyed in 1650, 1653, 1735 and 1779. It was rebuilt in 1782 by the architect Thomas from Świdnica . In the years 1840–1842 it was rebuilt in the classic style and has remained in this form to this day. In 1856 the town hall received the tower built in the classicism style .

After the city was occupied by the Red Army during the Battle of Prudnik on March 17, 1945, 12 Polish partisans hid in the town hall. Who were likely soldiers in the Polish Home Army . The City Hall did not suffer from the bombing of the ring by the USSR military air force .

architecture

The town hall has three floors and an attic. From the north side, the building is dominated by the adjoining classicist, multi-part tower with a helmet. The tower is 63 meters high.
