The sandstone relief depicting the death of the Virgin is located in the Catholic parish church of the Assumption of Mary in Engen , a town in the district of Konstanz in Baden-Württemberg .

The colored relief with the death of the Virgin is embedded in the wall of the north nave. The work of an unknown sculptor was created at the turn of the late Gothic to the Renaissance . Parallel to the foreground stands the bed of Mary, around which the twelve apostles gathered in mourning. In the background, on a stylized cloud, appears Christ , who takes the soul of Mary into heaven as a small figure.

The relief was donated by Heinrich V. von Lupfen , the city ​​lord of Engen, and his wife Helene von Rappoltstein . The coat of arms of the donors is in the upper right corner.
