Marijohn Wilkin (born July 14, 1920 in Kemp , Texas , † October 28, 2006 ) was an American songwriter. She made her living as a professional writer for the Nashville country music industry . Several of her country and folk songs became hits, and she has received multiple awards. In 1975 she was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame . She was nicknamed "The Den Mother of Music Row ". She co-wrote the classic The Long Black Veil and is considered the discoverer of country star Kris Kristofferson .
