Marikina Heights is one of the barangays of Marikina City in the Philippines . The area is 184.16 hectares. Once a private hacienda , the area now has 35,416 inhabitants (as of 2010).

history

During the Japanese occupation in World War II , the area served as an important military base. The Japanese armed forces created underground tunnels on the area, which lead to the airfields of Paliparan, Sto. Nino and Concepcion led. One of these tunnels is now under the police station along Bayan-Bayanan-Avenue.

Since the terrain there is similar to that of the highlands of South Korea , the area was used as a military training area for Filipino soldiers before their combat deployment in the Korean War . This earned him the nickname "Mari-Korea".

The area served as livestock and grazing land for cows, carabaos , goats and horses. The Tuason family, who owned the land, built a dairy farm on it. In the late 1950s, the area increased as the Tuason family decided to develop their land into the Marikina Heights satellite town . Marikina Heights became another barangay of Marikina City on April 2, 1978 by President Ferdinand Marcos by decree 1489.
