Mariléia dos Santos , better known as Michael Jackson (born November 19, 1963 in Valença , Rio de Janeiro , Brazil ) is a former Brazilian soccer player. She played for the Brazilian women's national soccer team for twelve years , took part in two world championships and the Olympic Games .

Career

She was considered the pelé of women's football in the 1980s and 1990s and she is said to have paved the way for women's football in Brazil. The teams in which she played include the women's teams Esporte Clube Radar in Rio, Corinthians São Paulo , FC Santos , SC Internacional in Porto Alegre, CR Vasco da Gama , Saad Esporte Clube in São Caetano do Sul , and Turin in Italy. It is alleged that she scored 1,567 goals in her career. She received third place from the International Federation of Football History (IFFHS) in the gallery of the best players of the twentieth century in South America.

Mariléia dos Santos saw her first successes in 1983 at the age of 20 when her team (Tupy in Santa Catarina ) won the first São Paulo Cup of women's football. She was then picked up by the legendary team from Radar, where she stayed from 1983 to 1989, scoring over 800 goals. In 1990 she moved to Saad, the team that won six straight titles and the 1995 Copa São Paulo Mundialito. In the same year she moved to Italy after opening up the international market for talent.

Dos Santos currently lives in the capital Brasília , is the general coordinator of women's football and is presented in the company of the current national team, athletes and football clinics.
