Marine Corps Base Camp Gilbert H. Johnson
Camp Gilbert H. Johnson ( MCB Camp Johnson ) is a base of the US Marine Corps (USMC) and belongs to Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune near the city of Jacksonville , North Carolina , on the east coast of the United States . It is home to the Marine Corps Combat Service Support Schools (MCCSSS). Mainly non-military skills are taught there, which are necessary in the broadest sense for the administration and supply of the troops, for example personnel management, logistics , financial planning and budgeting , but also technical subjects such as auto mechanics .
The Camp Johnson base is located in the historic Montford Point training center , where the first African-American recruits of the USMC, the so-called "Montford Point Marines", were trained. The base was named after Gilbert H. Johnson , one of the first African American soldiers and instructors in the ranks of the USMC. Across from the camp is the North Carolina Veterans Cemetery , the US state's military and veterans cemetery .
MCB Camp Johnson , as well as Marine Corps Base Camp Roy S. Geiger and Marine Corps Air Station New River, are part of the overall complex of Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune .
