Marine Corps Air Station New River (MCAS New River) is a heliport of the United States Marine Corps near the city of Jacksonville in Onslow County in the state of North Carolina in the Southeastern United States . MCAS was founded in 1943 and since 1972 it has been named McCutcheon Field in honor of Brigadier General Keith B. McCutcheon , who has made a name for himself in the development of helicopter-based air transport in the Marine Corps. This base is the only one on which the MV-22 Osprey , a helicopter of the latest generation, is stationed, and training squadrons from both the Marines and the US Air Force are also based here.
MCAS New River , as well as Marine Corps Base Camp Roy S. Geiger and Marine Corps Base Camp Gilbert H. Johnson, are part of the overall complex of Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune .
